What you will need:

• a glass bottle
• a balloon
• 2 tablespoons yeast
• 1 tablespoon sugar
• 2 tablespoons lukewarm water
• A bowl of lukewarm water

The chemical reaction that occurs in this science experiment will lead to a lot of curiosity, questions, pondering and guessing...all of the traits held by the best scientists! This experiment requires a bit of patience, as the reaction occurs over the space of an hour. The balloon will slowly inflate as the reaction between the yeast, sugar and warm water occurs. In the fermentation process, sugar breaks down in the presence of the yeast enzyme zymase. You could experiment further, and use differing amounts of each ingredient...which will inflate the fastest? Or you could also experiment with different sized bottles. Either way, this experiment will create lots of great discussion. Thanks for watching!
