What you will need:
• Three glasses of water
• Food colouring/liquid watercolours
• Paper towels
This science experiment is as much an exploration of colour, as it is science. The capillary action of the water travelling up the paper towel, and into another glass seems to defy gravity. Ask children to share their theories on how and why this happens. It can also be a great guessing game when you start. What do you think will happen? Why is the water moving so slowly? Why doesn't it spill onto the bench/table? What colour do you think will be in the middle glass? This experiment requires a fair amount of patience! But the end result is fantastic!
